Workshops now in Niagara Region

Here at Focus on Nature, we are very excited to announce that the Niagara region has been newly added to our list of workshop locations! Spots are now available under the Hamilton & Niagara Region booking calendar.

In 2008, Trina Koster and Shirley Hunt co-founded Focus on Nature with the vision of reaching as many young people as possible. After starting the program in the Guelph-Wellington region 15 years ago, we have since expanded to Waterloo, Halton, Peel, Dufferin-Peel, Hamilton, and now Niagara! Each location expansion has required a new set of equipment, staff, volunteers, and sponsors to make it happen.

Nevertheless, the expansions have proven to be incredibly rewarding for communities! For example, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board is one of our newer regions, but has quickly grown into one of the most popular ones! Since the beginning of 2023, we have already reached 191 students in this region, primarily those in SERC classes. As we head into the Spring, our busiest season, this number is expected to grow significantly higher!

We would also not be able to continue growing without the students and teachers who are spreading the word about our program. Here’s what some of them had to say:

“During the program I loved being outside and really seeing what is in nature in spots you wouldn’t think of and making things like pine cones look even more beautiful…”
- Meadow (Student), Waterloo Region

“I had an absolute blast. It was so much fun working outside with the kids and seeing how proud they were of their pictures. I thought it was extremely well run. I would most definitely do it again next year.”
- Stacey (Teacher), Guelph-Wellington Region

Our goal is to continue expanding across all of Ontario and one day, across Canada! Thank you so much to all of our supporters who are making this vision possible. To book a workshop in Niagara or another region, click here.
