First International Workshop

Focus on Nature is pleased to announce that we have successfully completed our very first international workshop! In partnership with EcoKids Barbados, this workshop was run by Simon Bell, the Executive Director of Focus on Nature.

Last month, Simon met Tiffany, the director of EcoKids Barbados, at a farmer’s market while vacationing in Barbados. After exchanging similar values on the importance of nature programs for children, a date was set up for the Focus on Nature photography workshop.

The half-day event took place on a Saturday in February at the headquarters of EcoKids, a small cabin on Holders Hill. It was a great location for nature photography because it had a variety of things to explore, such as a family of chickens! The day began with an interactive presentation on the Elements of Design, tips for good composition, how to use a digital camera, as well as how to use Google Photos to edit and organize their photos. Each of the eight participants excitedly brought their cameras to embark on a nature photo walk. Everyone was very happy with their accomplishments and EcoKids hopes Simon can do it again next year!

Our first experience running an international workshop has proven that no matter where you are, it doesn’t take a lot to capture the beauty of nature! All you have to do is go outside, grab any device with a camera, and explore the natural world around you. To learn more about EcoKids Barbados, you can visit their website.
