Come Along with Us to a Workshop

Life can sure get busy as a full-time university student, who also works part-time for this amazing not-for-profit organization! But when I am able to, I love being able to attend an in-school workshop and see how much elementary school students love learning about photography and being outside. On March 21st, I was able to do just that!

On this brisk, chilly snowy day on the 21st of March, I met our Executive Director, Sarah, at Holy Family Catholic French Immersion school in the town of Woodstock (where Sarah and I are both from). I was super excited to attend this workshop as it had been the first workshop I had been to in 2024, and I am an LDCSB alum myself! It was so nostalgic seeing the posters, and school supplies (the connecting cubes usually used for teaching math) that were in my elementary school on the other side of town.

In 2023, the class Sarah and I visited, invited us in for a workshop and they loved it SO much, that they invited us back for a part two! We were thrilled, grateful, and delighted that the students and teachers wanted to have us back to teach them the Principles of Design. The students took some stellar photos and totally showed us that they had a strong understanding of the Elements and Principles of Design. We were blown away by the talent and enthusiasm of this grade 5/6 class!

The nature walk, slideshow, and nature sculptures were wonderful parts of the day! However, I asked these students to share what nature means to them. They were able to share a few words, a sentence, or even a drawing, expressing what nature means to them. Their responses and very impressive visuals warmed our hearts and were evidence that programs like Focus on Nature are truly meaningful, impactful, and inspiring for the next generation of leaders.

As the administrative assistant, I try to take some photos of the instructor teaching the class and students out taking photos. The photos I captured turned out great, and it is identifiable that it was a positive experience. See some of these photos below!

We want to thank the staff and students at Holy Family for welcoming us back for the third time! We had so much fun and beautiful photographs were taken by everyone.
