Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

Social- Emotional Learning Skills - A

A1.2 Recognize sources of stress and cope with challenges to develop personal resilience (if they struggle to grasp how to take a photo or how to edit a photo we work with them to overcome the stressful emotion they could be feeling)

A1.3 Maintain positive motivation and perseverance to foster a sense of optimism and hope (we review photos as they take them and encourage them when they take a great photo and talk through how to make it even better)

A1.4 Build relationships and communicate effectively to support healthy relationships and respect diversity (we encourage feedback and questions from the students as well as teamwork and communication with their peers while taking photos)

A1.5 Develop self-awareness and self-confidence to develop a sense of identity and belonging (we celebrate everyone’s top 7 edited photos at the end of the day in a slideshow for the class as well as build their confidence around photography and their creativity)

Active Living - B

Students all participate in a guided nature photo walk where we are out walking and running around for an hour to an hour and a half during the day. Students are encouraged to attempt to get photos from different angles including getting on the ground, putting their feet in the air, jumping, running, squatting, and other positions to get the best photo. We ensure the students remain safe while on our walk with adult and teacher supervision. They are taught about boundaries and protocols to ensure they can see and hear an adult at all times.
