March Break Camps

NOTE: We had a successful week of camps at the Arboretum again in 2017. Check out some of the campers’ photos.

We will be hosting March Break Camps in 2018 but have not yet set up registration. If you want to reserve a spot now, write to us at workshops(at) and let us know. We’ll write back when registration is officially open.

During March Break 2017, Focus on Nature will be conducting two 2-day photography day camps at the Arboretum’s Taylor Centre, plus an additional one-day Advanced Photography Workshop for those who have previously attended our March Break or Summer Camp. You can register online here.

We will limit each camp to 20 campers between the ages of 8 and 16.  The first camp will be March 13 & 14; the second camp will be March 15 & 16; and the Advanced Workshop will be March 17.

Our camps are a great opportunity for students to develop their photography skills while exploring all the natural beauty that the University of Guelph’s Arboretum has to offer.  We encourage the young photographers to be visual artists, to see the beauty in the details of nature and learn how to capture it with their cameras.

The planned activities include short lessons about visual design and basic camera controls; guided photo field excursions around the Arboretum; and time to edit photos and make slideshows using the program called Picasa. We plan to end the second day with a group slideshow to which parents will be invited to attend.

Our Advanced Photography Workshop will give participants additional technical skills and guided practical experience that will further enhance their abilities as young photographers.

As a Focus on Nature Lead Instructor, I will be personally conducting both camps and the Advanced Workshop. I’ll have help from other experienced volunteer program assistants, all of whom have been trained for Focus on Nature school workshops and have had police record checks done. We are limiting the number of participants to 20 per camp so that every camper will get lots of personal mentoring from our team.

The fee for a 2-day camp is $100.  The Advanced Photography Workshop fee is $50. Each day runs from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Extended hours for early drop-off and late pick-up can be arranged. Please use our online registration form to register your child. For more than one child, please repeat the registration submission.

Payment can be made by Interac transfer to; by PayPal; or by cheque to Focus on Nature, PO Box 1601, Guelph, ON, N1H 6R7.
Registration will not be confirmed until payment has been received.

Campers should bring their own drinks, snacks and a lunch each day, and be dressed for the weather. Cameras and laptops will be provided if the camper does not have them to bring to camp.

As space is limited, I encourage you to register as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please email me at

And if you know of others who might be interested in our March Break Camps, please pass this on.

Thanks for considering Focus on Nature’s March Break Camps!
